Recording Your Budgie On Your Computer

You can use the standard sound recorder that comes with your Windows operating system as it is probably the easiest to start off with.

On your computer do the following:

  • Select Programs, Entertainment, Sound Recorder. When you select sound recorder the record button on the recorder should be red.
  • 60-120 second recordings are the easiest to work with. When you are done naturally click the stop button on the recorder.
  • The next step is the most important step. Now you have to save it in a format that is the smallest and easiest to post on the web.
  • Click File, Save As, (you will have to choose a folder to save your file in and at the same time name the file. Do not save it yet! Before you save it you have to click on the change button at the bottom to save it in the right format.
  • When you do this the sound screen will pop up.Under format select "MPEG Layer3"(if you have trouble finding it, use the up arrow as it is usually above the format that is displayed automatically).
  • Under attributes select the first mono type recording. It should be "32 Kbit/s, 24,000 Hz, mono-3K/Click Okay. Then click Save and name the file and put it in a folder or on your desktop. The recording will now be converted to .wav format.
  • It will take a few seconds for it to convert to a .wav file13. When it is finished right click on the file and click properties. The file size should be about 100-150 kb for every minute of your recording. I hope this helps.
  • Let me know if you have any problem. Then you can email me the recording or fill out the form on this page. My email is This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

How To Submit Your Audio

Or Video Recording

If you are submitting an audio recording only you can follow the instructions on the left. I made them up years ago so these days as long as the recording is less than 5 mb in size you should be able to save it in any audio format you wish and send it to me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..  Unfortunately for video files are much larger and emailing them can cause a problem. If you have a  place on the web you can upload them to and send me a link so I can download them, that would be the most preferable method. Otherwize you can email me and I will send you further instructions.

File Factory is a good free place where you can upload them to and just send me the link. It allows up to 2 GB of free space. There are other places as well that you can use.

The best format to use would be Mpeg4. The best ratio to use is 4:3. We usually convert it anyways to Mpeg4 so it is mobile friendly once we have put the captions in.
